To skip or not to skip, that is the question…

So by now I’m sure most of you have seen Julep’s theme and colors for June. SAIL INTO SUMMER!

The playful preppy colors in our NANTUCKET NOSTALGIA collection have me daydreaming of beaches and boardwalks.

The Modern Beauty box will contain:

Image

The “world’s first” DD creme and DD concealer in the shade of your choice.

My thoughts-I have a holy grail BB creme I use daily and I don’t usually use concealer so I would not choose this box. I also can’t decide if the DD creme has yellow or red undertones. I have massive pink undertones and I read somewhere that this DD creme is yellow based so I’m thinking this won’t look super great on me.

The Boho Glam box will contain:

Image

Nail colors in Dianna (Seafoam green creme) and Lexie (Dandelion yellow creme) and DD creme in the shade of your choice.

My thoughts-I am LOVING Dianna, but I don’t love Lexie. I am not big on yellows and I just got a yellow in my Hooray it’s May mystery box so I wouldn’t choose this. I do love Dianna though and may try to trade for her.

The Bombshell box will contain:

Image

Nails colors Reagan(Electric dark pink creme) and Payton(Kelly green creme) and DD creme in the shade of your choice.

My thoughts– Meh. I love pink but I have so many pink shades like this and I even have some greens like this, so although I like the colors I wouldn’t choose this box.

The Classic with a Twist box will contain:

Image

Nail colors in Martha(polo pink creme) and Kennedy(khaki creme) and DD creme in the shade of your choice.

My thoughts-Love the colors, but I have so many shades like these already. I wouldn’t choose this box.

The It Girl box will contain:

Image

Nail colors in Bess(baby blue creme), Nan(Nantucket red creme) and Char(nautical navy blue creme).

My thoughts-So I am officially an “It girl” and out of all the boxes I like this one the best. I’m not crazy about the baby blue, but I love the nantucket red and the nautical navy. I could trade the blue out most likely, so if I get a box it would be this one.

Add-ons:

Image

My thoughts-No. I don’t use concealer very often and I have pink undertones so I don’t think this would work for me.

Image

My thoughts-I am liking Bunny. From the description it sounds nice! Although I’d like to see a decent macro shot. I would get this as an add on.

Image

My thoughts-I am not loving this because I have so many brushes already. I could see someone who didn’t have a lot of brushes liking this though.

Full upgrade:

Image

My thoughts-I would not even consider upgrading this month.

So my fellow mavens, do I skip or choose It girl with Bunny as an add on? June is my birthday month and I think I deserve a treat. LOL but I treat myself every month so that’s besides the point.

To skip or not to skip?? That is the question.

Julep Maven May It Girl Box

As much as I loved the brights from last month, I think I love this month’s colors even better!! This month’s theme is entitled “Set the Stage” and it’s sort of a roaring 20’s classic theme, and I’m definitely diggin’ it. I stuck with my It Girl category this month, and I’m so glad I did!! I am simply in love with all 3 polishes, and Julep sent some adorable rose hair pins as an extra. I also got Etta as an add-on. I will be getting the Paris lip trio in a trade as well, so I was a bit spoiled this month!!

I’m very happy with this month’s box and the colors in particular!! If you’d like to join Julep you can do so here. Your introductory box is free with Code: FREEMAVEN

I’m tempted to get that pedi set because I’ve heard wonderful things about the pedi prep, and I love those tumblers, but I have SOOO much nail polish right now I can’t justify the polish sets, although I think they are lovely.

Visit the secret store here. If you like what you see and like to become a Maven for next month, you can join here. You can get your first box for free plus 3.99 shipping with code FREEMAVEN.

April Julep Maven Box!!

I got my first introductory maven box a little while ago. I skipped last month because nothing really spoke to me and funds were a bit low. This month I LOVED the brights and decided to get the Bombshell box. I am “officially” an “It Girl” but I loved the bombshell colors so I switched for this month. Here is the box:

Image

It included:

1. Julep Mighty Nail and Cuticle Serum: I really like this. My cuticles tend to be dry and flaky and this serum actually made a difference, and really quick! I noticed a difference after 1 use. It applies with a really neat brush.

Image

2. Nail Color in Ally: Described as Electric Blueberry Frost. That’s the best color description I’ve ever heard. No lie. I haven’t tried it yet, but I think it’s going to be my next mani color. I also think it’d be great as a pedi color!

 Image

3. Nail color in Janel: Described as Pink Raspberry Frost. I pretty much love ANY shade of pink and this is no exception. I think my hands are best suited for pink shades and I will likely be wearing this soon.

Image

4. Light blue Rock Candy. I have no pic of this because I ate it. Promptly. Why can’t I just savor some things?

Some more pics for your viewing pleasure. 🙂

Julep Boho Glam Intro box

I recently purchased this Boho Glam introductory box simply because I loved the colors and one of the colors is my name 😉 Yes I’m a dork! I got the cuticle oil and the freedom topcoat as add ons, those don’t come with the box.

Julep Spring Mystery Box: Version 1

I recently posted about the Julep Spring Mystery box. I’ll fully admit I was immediately drawn in to purchase one of these boxes. Unfortunately I was disappointed when my box arrived. I got Version 1 which is the lowest end box, and probably the one most people got. I guess deep down inside I knew I wouldn’t get the 200 dollar box, but I had this hope I would, and the anticipation was awesome! Then disappointment when I opened the box. Don’t get me wrong, I do think the box is worth 24.99, and the colors are pretty. I was just hoping I’d get an awesome box. But I didn’t. Life goes on. Would I buy another mystery box? Most likely. Here is my box:

Image

An ominous black box. What could be inside?

Image

I wonder?

Image

Everything minus the chocolate eggs. I ate them. Like immediately.

Image

Image

Things in the box:

1. 4 chocolate eggs: they were small yummy chocolate eggs. They looked very Easter-ly against the green grass decor that adorned the box. I liked them. Well played Julep. Well Played.

2. Julep Nail File: This thing is actually awesome. Really it is. Very good quality nail file. Insert happy nail file dance here.

3. Julep one step nail polish remover pads (10): Since 10 come in 1 pack I’m a little confused. Do you use 1 for each nail? I know 1 won’t work on all 10 nails right? Because if so, the other 9 would dry out. I haven’t tried these yet, but I’ve heard good things. We’ll see.

Image

4. Julep Daylight Defense SPF 30 Hand and Face Lotion: Retail price 28.00 so worth more than the whole dang box. So why am I not excited about this? I guess I feel like if I want sunscreen (which I do use daily when I’m exposed to the harsh sun) I’ll purchase some Hawaiian Tropic or something, and I sure as heck won’t pay 28 dollars for it. I’m sadly not super excited about this product. Maybe I will be pleasantly surprised?

Image

5. Julep Polish in Lauren: I am really excited about this color. I love PINKS. I am crazy about PINKS. Pink is my favorite color. Pink on the lips on your lover, cause Pink is the love you discover…insert awesome Aerosmith song here. The website describes this delectable pink as a hot tropical pink. Pure awesomeness.

Image

6. Julep polish in Ashley: This color is not listed on the website, but it’s a coppery-orange frosty shimmery color. I won’t have an opinion until I use it. I do like the way it looks in the bottle. It may be awesome, or it may remind me of Thanksgiving which is not something I want to think about in spring. We’ll see.

Image

7. Julep Polish in Camille: This was the color everyone received. And I like it. It’s a nice clear glitter that I’m excited to use both alone, and as a topcoat.

Image

8. Hair ties: These may be my favorite thing in the box so far. They are awesome!! I love the neon colors, and they work well as both a hair tie, and a bracelet. So cute with a black top. Also I wore an adorable side ponytail yesterday with the neon pink.

All the polishes

So there you have it. My mystery box. The one I dreamt about. The one that let me down. Yes, I’m being dramatic, but I thought for sure I’d get the good one. Oh well, I’ll be fair. The box was worth the price of 24.99 I paid. And the anticipation was nice. I’d probably buy another one because you never know when you’ll get the GOOD one.

Which box did you receive? Were you happy with it?

April Julep Nail polishes Revealed!!

I am LOVING the April Julep Collection! They are all bright colored polishes and I had a hard time choosing which box I wanted! I chose to skip last month, both because funds were a little low AND I wasn’t really LOVING the selection, but this month is a WHOLE NOTHER STORY! I’m loving these brights.

Modern Beauty Box

My official style is “It Girl” but I switched my style this month for the “Bombshell” because I loved the colors more and I really want to try the new cuticle treatment! Check out this blog for full size swatch photos!

I am very excited for this month, will you be getting a Julep Maven box this month? Which one? If you haven’t joined and want to, you can do so here

Julep and I are parting ways

I got my introductory free Maven box that I spoke about here. Let me preface this by saying I spent probably an hour on their site agonizing over which silly box to get. I chose the “it girl” because I fell madly in love with the green color which was described as a grass green with a slight shimmer. *sigh* well I opened the box and found 3 completely different colors. I am SOOOOOO disappointed. Here are some pics. Image

Image

ImageThe colors I got aren’t bad. I just have colors like this already. I was really hyped up for the grass green color. I also got a stupid Julep chap stick thing that looks like something my husband would use. I am going to cancel my subscription. Anyone tried Julep and liked it? If so please comment. I feel better now that I’ve ranted, but I’m still disappointed. Those other colors were sooooo pretty! And I have absolutely no use for the chap stick. Just so I can be completely honest, I did contact their CS department to see if the colors could be exchanged, so I’m not going to swatch or try the polish until I hear back.

Julep Maven Madness

So I got an email for a promotional code for a FREE Julep Maven starter box, so I thought what the heck. I’m going to try it! It was a total of 3.99 with shipping and I choose the “It Girl” starter box. Keep in mind if you do this, you will be charged the 19.99 monthly fee unless you cancel or skip the month. The polishes retail for 14 dollars a piece so I thought this was a great way to try them out, but i am skeptical and I most likely will cancel after I get the box, mostly due to budget issues. The Code is “FREEMAVEN” if you want to try it out. I will post pics and a review when my box arrives.
