Beauty Box 5 Unboxing and Review

Image

I recently received a Beauty Box 5 (BB5) to review on my blog. For those of you who aren’t familiar with BB5 it’s a monthly beauty box subscription service similar to Birchbox and Ipsy. The boxes feature 4-5 deluxe sized samples/full size products for $12/month. Boxes contain a mixture of cosmetics, nail products, skin products, hair products, fragrances and beauty tools. Brands may include well known brands, niche brands, and even vegan brands.

My package arrived in a delightful little box.

Image

Then I opened it and found these goodies!

Image

Image

  • Model Co. Illusion Lip Enhancer pencilfull size ($20.00)-I love this because it’s a skin color pencil that I can use to enhance my small lips. When I first looked at the color of this pencil, I thought it would be dark, but it actually matches my lips perfectly. I have used it and I think it works very well. I just use it to barely line outside my natural lip line and I define my cupids bow.

Image

  • bodyocology Clear Foundation Primerdeluxe sample size-I just tried this primer this morning under my Rimmel BB cream and I LOVE it. It made my face very smooth and seemed to even smooth my fine lines. I have this bad habit of looking at my face in my car visor mirror even though it amplifies all my pores and fine lines. I looked at myself again this morning and I really could notice a difference! I like this primer a lot.

Image

Image

  • blinc Mascara in blackSample Size-I’ve tried this before, but it’s been awhile. I tried it on my freshly curled lashes and it made them look super thick. I didn’t notice any smudging and it didn’t bother my eyes at all. It was weird when I removed it though, I got my lashes wet after I washed my face, then I sort of “pulled” the mascara off. It came off in strings and looked like I had pulled a set of lashes off. It was strange. I guess it was the “tubes” coming off my lashes. I will use up this entire sample, but I don’t think I’d purchase a full size.

Image

Image

Image

  • Brazen Cosmetics eyeshadow in “birthday suit”-deluxe sample-I wore this as an all over lid color and blended it in my crease and I really liked it! It blended nicely into my skin and it’s a very nice neutral shade perfect for a natural makeup look.

Image

  • Jean Pierre Cosmetics Oil Absorbing facial tissuesfull size-I haven’t tried these yet, but I love the plastic case they come in. I’ve tried facial tissues that come in regular cardboard boxes before and they always get beat up in my work bag. I think something like this will be good for me since the plastic will probably hold up a bit better. I tend to get oily in the afternoon so these will come in handy.

Image

Image

So there you have it!! I actually really love everything in this box, and since it contained some full size products and a nice variety of products, I feel like it’s definitely worth the $12.

Image

If you want to receive a Beauty Box 5, you can sign up HERE. You have to sign up before the 10th of the month to receive that month’s box and you can cancel anytime.

Here is my unboxing/review video 🙂

*disclaimer-I received the box free to review, but all opinions are 100% honest. The link is not a referral link, just a link to the BB5 website.

June Ipsy glam bag Unboxing

2013-06-222I was going through Picasa editing some photos for a new Indie polish review and I saw the swatches of the items in my June Ipsy bag that I took, and it dawned on me! I forgot to do a post on my June Ipsy bag!! So here it is a bit late, but at least it’s still June!

Image

Ipsy went with a “Wild” theme this month, which I can always appreciate. I love going bold with makeup every now and then. Since I generally keep my makeup conservative for work, I like to let loose when I can.

Image

The first goodie I pulled from my shiny pink bag was this baublebar bracelet. This was a gift I received for referring 2 people to Ipsy in the previous month, so if that was you, I thank you!! I like this bracelet because it’s adjustable, and bracelets tend to be too big for me. I have about a 6 inch wrist and this bracelet fits nice! I browsed baublebar’s website, and they have some really cute jewelry! I received a coupon code with my ipsy bag, so I may get myself some goodies.

Image

Next, I pulled out this Chella Ivory Lace Highlighter pencil. The color on this is darker than I expected, but I plan to use this under my brows, bridge of my nose, and cupid’s bow. I think it will look nice blended out.

Image

I was very excited to see this in my bag. J. Cat Eyelashes and glue! I enjoy wearing falsies every once in a while, and these look nice and natural enough for daytime wear.

Image

I thought for sure I was getting the nude colored pencil in my bag, so I was thrilled when I saw this one!! It’s in the shade called “tipsy” and made by Starlooks. The color is a coral color and I think it would look fabulous as both a liner, and an all over lip color.

Image

I originally thought this was an eye shadow palette, but apparently it’s a body glitter palette? I may still try it on my eyes with great care though. The glitter is chunky and if it gets in your eyes, it will hurt and possibly damage them, so use around your eyes at your own risk! I so wish this had been eyeshadow. It’s also by J. Cat.

Image

The last item was NYX powder blush in the shade called “spice”. It is described as a Matte Mauve, to me It’s a nice pink with a shimmer, and I’ll definitely use it!

Image

Image

I swatched all the items and was a bit disappointed in the glitters, aside from the gold and the dark turquoise color, they all sort of look alike when applied on the skin. My favorite is the gold because it’s got some holographic glitter in it.

Image

See? The last 2 colors especially look similar. In the pans the second from the last one appears to contain holographic glitter, while the last one does not.

Image

Here are swatches of the Starlooks pencil in Tipsy, The Chella highlighter, and the NYX blush in spice. All very pretty wearable colors for me.

Overall, I like this bag. It contains things I can definitely wear, with the exception of the glitter palette, and my verdict on that is still sort of up in the air. I may get brave and try an eye look with it, if I do I will post a pic!!

Update: I did a makeup look with all the products from this month’s bag after I published this post. Here it is!

2013-06-263

June Birchbox Unboxing

There were around 40 variations to this month’s Birchbox, but every subscriber got a polish from Color Club’s exclusive Wanderlust collection. I like when they include a sought after product in everyone’s box, I think it eliminates some box envy. (Hello my name is Stephanie and I..suffer…from…beauty box envy…) There, I said it. When some subscribers got the Ruby Wing color changing polish last month and I didn’t, I wanted to stomp my feet and cry that it wasn’t fair (not that I did that or anything….) Anyway on to this month’s box.

ImageImage

Inside I found some pretty good things, in my humble opinion. First I pulled out a Comodynes tanning towelette

Image

I know a lot of ladies who got this were disappointed, but I am excited to try it. I am a chronic self tanner, but I’ve never tried a towelette. The only thing I worry about is not being able to do my whole body with this one towelette. I will post a picture when I try it out. If you have already tried these let me know what you thought.

Next, I found a matchbox of Tweezerman nail files. This was considered the box’s “lifestyle extra” although I consider this a beauty product.

Image

I actually already own these in another print and I really like them! They work very well and you can stash them anywhere. My favorite place to use them is at work. Occasionally I will snag a nail and need a quick fix, and these are perfect. I get a ton of use out of just one of these little files.

Next I found a small tub of Suki exfoliate foaming cleanser.

ImageImage

I was pleased to see that this is a decent sized deluxe sample, and I am excited to try it. It is a sugar based lemongrass infused exfoliating cleanser. I exfoliate just about daily, so I will definitely get a few uses out of this.

Next, I grabbed the pillow box, because I knew what laid within (I peeked), and one item was a lippie!

ImageImage

This is a LAQA and Co. Lil’ lip. It’s a bright pink color which I am in love with. I think the shade I got is called Lambchop. I like bright colors though, I know a lot of ladies were displeased with this on the Birchbox facebook page, but I am NOT one of those ladies!! I will rock this pink.

Image

It applied smoothly and I really like the twist up plastic packaging. This is one of my favorite items in this month’s Birchbox.

The other item in the pillow box was a color club nail polish!

Image

The shade is called Mod in Manhattan and I would describe this as an off white creme with a hint of peach in it. It applied pretty smoothly and the swatches below show 3 coats with Seche top coat. I really like this shade and I think it makes my skin look tanner! For some reason I feel like my nails look longer with this shade as well.

ImageImage

So I am really liking my Birchbox this month. Another thing I wanted to mention was Birchbox’s new look. Did anyone notice? They sort of redid their theme. I like it, but I liked the other one too, so I’m a bit indifferent.

What did you get in your Birchbox this month?

If you didn’t get one and you want one, you can sign up here

The First Ever Target Beauty Box!

I finally got my Target beauty box. I know a lot of you have been waiting for yours and I was thrilled when a box from Target arrived!

Image

It came in a white box with target emblems on it.

Image

I knew what was in the box because of the spoiler post I did, but it was still thrilling to finally open it! It was only $5 with free shipping.

Inside I found the following goodies.

Image

The card that it came with said something to the effect off “The first monthly target box….” so I’m thinking these will become more regular. I guess the response they got with this first one was pretty good.

Image

First goodie I pulled out was:

Image

A full sized Venus Olay razor!-This may be the highlight of the box for me. I already use and love Venus razørs, so I only expect great things from this. And with it being summer I’m shaving like every other day.

Then I grabbed…

IMG_1908

Sally Hansen Salon Effects nail polish strips! I like these. They retail for about $8.50 and are pretty cool. I prefer nail polish, but these are nice for a quick mani if you don’t want to wait for drying time. I also really like the giraffe print!

Next was:

IMG_1905

Fekkai glossing cream!! Probably my 2nd favorite in the box. I have very thick, coarse, naturally wavy hair and I am very excited to try this out! I’ve heard some pretty good things about it.

After grabbing these 3 bigger items, I had 2 foil packets left. I dislike foil packets, but for $5 it’s expected in a box like this.

The first foil packet was:

IMG_1911

L’Oreal Magic skin beautifier BB cream-I was not excited about this because I already own the full size product and it’s nothing to write home about. This will probably end up in a trade or package I send to someone.

The last foil packet was more exciting to me…

IMG_1910

Effaclar duo dual action acne treatment-I am actually having a breakout right now 😦 I tried to take biotin for my nails and it caused some pretty severe acne as a side effect. I have quit the biotin, but the acne is still present. I’m hoping it will go away soon. I am always interested in new acne products, although I wish this was a bigger sample, or at least 3 days worth so we could test out the claim that it starts to clear acne in 3 days.

So there you have it! All in all for $5 it’s a decent haul. For those of you who got the Target Beauty Box what did you think? I am also interested to see what patterns you all received of the nail strips!

Post in the comments!

May 2013 Ipsy Review: Spring Fling

Oh how this Spring Fling has been a grand one! I have never seen so much hype and excitement over an ipsy bag in all my life! And for good reason. Ipsy stepped it up this month big time. They brought in more full size products, more high end, loved companies, and more variation. This is the first month I’m aware of that Ipsy did variations of bags more like Birchbox does. This was met with some positive AND negative response. I was initially super excited about the variation and re-filling out my beauty quiz, but for some reason I still received the “core” bag. The good news? The core bag was pretty dang awesome! This is what I got:

Image

Image

All this for $10!

My box contained:

1. Mirabella Color Sheer lipstick in Daydream-I was slightly disappointed in the color. I was hoping for a brighter color like pixie or posy. But Daydream isn’t bad. I wear it to work and it’s a nice look.  I’ve worn it twice now. The lipstick itself feels pretty nice as well. Goes on smoothly and lasts awhile.

Image

Image

2. Pacifica Roller ball perfume in Island Vanilla-I was hoping for this. I am usually not into vanilla scents, but this one is nice, and my husband seems to like it. I read somewhere that a man’s favorite scent is baked goods. Maybe that’s why he likes it? Who knows. This is actually my first ever roller ball scent and I love that I can take it to work and reapply easily halfway through my shift if I need to. Which I do, because I have to be smelling good at work.

Image

3. Zoya nail polish in Gei Gei-Again this is the color I was hoping for and pretty much made my entire day when I opened my bag!! I already own Neely from this collection, so I was really just hoping not to get that one. But I really wanted Gei Gei!!! I’m so excited to try it (after the tons of other polishes I have that I haven’t tried including a few Indies….)

Image4. Anastasia Clear brow gel-I was meh about this. Still am. I have a use for brow gel, that’s not the  problem, the problem is a have a tinted gel I already use and love and it’s from e.l.f. so it costs like 3 dollars. I did try this and it’s not bad! And I read somewhere about using it to make your own personalized tinted brow gel so I may try that with something exotic like green or purple.

Image

5.Yaby Concealer in buff-I got excited thinking “wow Ipsy really matched my skin perfectly!!” then I found out this shade was part of the “core” bag, so I just got lucky. But hey I’ll take it!! I tried this concealer on both a blemish and under my eyes and I LOVE it. It blends nicely and covers well. I used my concealer brush from my January Ipsy bag and it worked great!! Also I’m using my GlamRX magnetic palette to store it in and it’s awesome!

Image

6. *BONUS* Urban Decay Moondust eyeshadow in Space cowboy-I received this bonus for referring 2 people to purchase Ipsy bags. I got the exact color I wanted! I just love Space Cowboy! It’s neutral and I can wear a variety of colors with it! I can also use this on my eyes and since it’s neutral, I can feel good about wearing a bright or red lip with it.

ImageImage

Image

So bottom line: I’m thrilled with this month’s bag. So thrilled in fact that I ordered a second bag which may have been a mistake since I’ll be getting the same bag, but hopefully different colors! My fingers are crossed that I get totally different colors.

What did you get in your bag??

AND..if you haven’t joined you should because it really looks like Ipsy is stepping up their game and getting amazing bags!! You can join HERE

May 2013 Birchbox Review: Beauty Diaries

Image

This month’s theme was “Beauty Diaries” and included this card which you could fill out and take a pic and tweet for a chance to win a full size item of everything you received in your box. That would be cool!

Image

I got Version 5 this month out of a possible 41 variations!

Image

Image

This box contained the following:

1. Cargo Water Resistant Blush in Los Cabos- It’s a peach shade with gold glimmer. It’s really pretty, but not unlike several blushes I already own. It’s ok though because this is the item I was really hoping I’d get since I’ve never tried Cargo products before. I also like the little tin the blush came in. Mine came in perfect condition, but I know some other ladies were not so lucky.

Image

2. COOLA Classic SPF 30 Cucumber Moisturizer for Face-I have not tried this yet, but I wish I would have tried it today!! I just now realized it’s for the face and is a moisturizer also! I thought it was only a sunscreen. I will definitely slip this into my morning skincare routine tomorrow.

Image

3. Hail Merry Macaroons– I’m indifferent on these little extras they throw into the box. Most of them I have enjoyed so far. It was a small sample, just 2 small macaroons, but they were delicious! Honestly, I am not a coconut person at all, but these were yummy!! Very soft.

Image

4. Juice Beauty Green Apple Peel Sensitive-A decent sized sample! I’m excited to try this. The only other juice beauty product I have tried was the hydrating mist I got in my Ipsy bag a few month’s ago. I don’t care for it really. But this looks kind of cool. I haven’t done a peel in a LONG time. I should have done this today too, why didn’t I?!

ImageImage

5. Kérastase Bain Chroma Captive – Cleanse-Well well well another set of foils. I hate foil packets for multiple reasons, especially shampoo and conditioner packets because there is NEVER enough for all my hair AND I can never get the darn things open in the shower!! I did use these today, but I had to run out of the shower dripping wet for some scissors and all I had was my eyebrow scissors! I hated to use them, but desperate times call for desperate measures. I ended up needing all 3 packets to wash my hair. I did like the way it lathered and smelled. My hair does feel quite nice.

Image

So there you have it! Box version 5 and I’m decently happy with it! Out of all the variations I saw, this is one of the ones I’d have rather had. I think it was a bit of a weak month for Birchbox.

Which Birchbox did you get?

Julep Maven May It Girl Box

As much as I loved the brights from last month, I think I love this month’s colors even better!! This month’s theme is entitled “Set the Stage” and it’s sort of a roaring 20’s classic theme, and I’m definitely diggin’ it. I stuck with my It Girl category this month, and I’m so glad I did!! I am simply in love with all 3 polishes, and Julep sent some adorable rose hair pins as an extra. I also got Etta as an add-on. I will be getting the Paris lip trio in a trade as well, so I was a bit spoiled this month!!

And of course my unboxing video…..

I’m very happy with this month’s box and the colors in particular!! The thing I love about Julep is that even though I think it’s a bit pricey, you can skip any month and still be considered a Maven so you always get the Maven prices on items. Ipsy Glambag May 2013 SPOILERS and Sneak Peeks!!

The sneak peaks are coming later this month. I wonder if Ipsy has decided to make us wait longer because we always guess what’s in the bags? The first spoiler is UHH-MAZE-ING!! It looks like this:

500mi-hg4jqyf9qgxhrq.jpg

Ipsy Sneak Peek #1

So I’m sure if you’re a nail polish junkie like me, you will recognize these bottles right away as…..ZOYA!!! Yes Zoya, and I’m thrilled. Zoya’s formula is amazing and they have a 5 free formula. It would be even more amazing if they were exclusive colors, but these colors look like their spring collection, either way I’m happy! I just hope I don’t get a dupe of a color I have since I own a lot of Zoya, but only 1 polish from the spring collection in Neely. I’d love the light purple!!

Zoya Spring 2013 Collection

Previous subscribers got this email:

So we also know we’ll be getting the Zoya polish plus FOUR OTHER PRODUCTS!!! This is welcome news after 2 months of 4 item bags. I’m so excited!!

Sneak peek #2!!

350x700px-LL-7890a396_peek2

Ipsy Sneak Peek #2

This looks like an either or with a lip gloss and lip stick? I am very excited for lip products!

Lippie Update: So Ipsy has said this product is NOT by theBalm (sad face!), it is now believed to be lip products by Mirabella!!

This photo was seen on Mirabella’s facebook page:

397793_10151666682147650_661245462_n

“Pixie Colour Sheers lipstick on the machine! Watch out Ipster’s, this hot shade may be in your Glam Bag…”

I pulled this off the Sheer lipstick product page on Mirabella’s website. The color in Pixie is highlighted. Looks nice and retails for $22.00 full size!!

Screen Shot 2013-05-01 at 10.39.17 PM

Thanks to girlwithclass from makeuptalk, it’s believed the lipgloss is Juice Beauty Reflecting gloss!!

500mi-hfcs2ldne72ztc7

The link says: “We’re so excited you were able to try our Reflecting Gloss in your May Glam bag. Make sure to use your custom code for 20% off your next order.” The picture looks like the pink one!

I am excited about either one of these, but I think I’d rather have the lipstick.

Sneak Peek #3

350x700px-LL-5e721eae_peek3

Sneak Peek #3

Definitely looks like concealer. I think it’s Yaby Concealer! Ipsy has worked with Yaby before so it makes sense. I would be thrilled if we got all 4 shades so we can mix and match, otherwise a lot of ladies wouldn’t be able to use theirs. I’m also excited about the possibility of these fitting in the glamrx palette from March. 🙂

Someone on facebook asked about color selections and this was Ipsy’s response:

All subscribers will receive one concealer shade with a selected color from the information that we have from you on your ipsy profile on ipsy.com. The shades are all versatile, blend extremely well, and they will definitely work for everyone. We hope you’re excited!

Breaking NEWS!! We have a picture of the possible bag! This was seen on Facebook!

ipsybag_zps558a2ccc

It definitely looks like a real ipsy ad and it’s got the Zoya polish in the pic, so it’s possible this is our May bag! I think it’s cute. I thought it would be floral, but I did get a floral bag last month, so I’d love this one.

This photo was seen on snap chat!! So it looks like we are definitely getting the chevron bag!! I am A-Okay with that!

Sneak Peek #4

“Get ready to have a memorable Spring Fling with TWO of these remaining goodies! What special two do you have your eye on?”

There is a lot going on in this pic, which is from Ipsy’s website, and judging from the quote, I’d guess that in addition to the first 3 items listed, we will get 2 items from this stash of goodies. From left to right:

A special thanks to the ladies on makeuptalk.com for figuring out most of these spoilers way before I could! Someone recently posted this, a variation of this month’s bag and it looks so awesome!!

600899_571577519541829_1591324589_n-1

I would be happy with this bag!

I can’t wait to get my bag this month!

Ipsy is also doing a referral program now and offering gifts for referring friends!! So if you’d like to join Ipsy, which as been my favorite beauty subscription so far, you can do so here: http://www.ipsy.com/?refer=u-hb8pdmp0msq61ir8

April Ipsy Glam Bag

This is a little late because I received my bag a bit late, but I wanted to share April’s Ipsy bag with you because I REALLY liked it! It may be my favorite so far! The theme this month was “pretty in pink” although I thought it should have more pink with a title like that. 🙂 I know pink isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but I LOVE pink.

Image

April Pretty in Pink Ipsy bag

The bag was originally supposed to be white with a hot pink interior and zipper, but I received an email saying that the bag didn’t pass some sort of inspection and I’d be getting a different bag. As you can see it’s a canvas retro floral print bag which I actually really like. Ipsy did say I’d get the original bag with next month’s bag!! So basically I got a free bag.

1. Sation Nail Polish in “Love at First Byte”-Out of the two possible colors, I did receive the one I wanted!! Yay! I really hardly get the colors I want in my Ipsy bags. This is a jelly-like color that would be great for glitter sandwiches! Anyone hungry?

Image

Sation Love at first Byte

Image

It’s a peachy pink shade that looks slightly sheer to me. The swatch above it NOT mine, I have a shade on my nails right now I’m not ready to remove 😉 I got it from this blog http://concreteandnailpolish.blogspot.com/2013/03/sation-love-at-first-byte.html

2. Mica Beauty shimmer powder in “Earth”- This was another either/or product and I was indifferent about which I received. I have used this a few times already as a lid color and for some reason it looks really pretty in the jar and on my finger, but I can’t see it well on my eyes. Maybe I’m not using enough. It’s a nice nude pink color that I believe would work well for just about anyone. I may try this as a cheek highlighter over some light bronzer.

Image

Shows the pink really well

Image

MicaBeauty Shimmer powder in Earth

3. Healthy Sexy Hair Soy Renewal Treatment-Yet another either/or product. I was also indifferent about which I received, but after reading reviews I think this will be better for my hair! It’s an Argan oil based styling treatment that I am excited to try. If anyone has tried this let me know what you think! My first ever Ispy bag contained the big sexy hair hairspray and I just used all of it up today!! Wahhhh!! So needless to say I’m a fan of the brand.

Image

4. Be a Bombshell Blush in “Sweet Cheeks”– Another either/or and I definitely got the one I wanted! This is a medium rose pink with shimmer and it’s gorgeous!!! I’ve worn it a few times already and a little goes a long way! The pigment is outstanding!

Earth on bottom and Sweet Cheeks on top

So I am very happy with this month’s bag. I think my favorite product is the blush! I’ve been pretty happy with Ipsy overall. I love that it’s mostly makeup items as opposed to skincare and hair stuff. It’s probably my favorite beauty subscription thus far.

www.ipsy.com

Please check out my unboxing video and sub my channel ❤

What did you get in your box?

My April Birchbox!

I got my April Birchbox earlier than normal this month, and I am A-OKAY with that! It arrived and I could hardly wait to do my unboxing video! I am pretty happy with the contents this month, but I’m doing some serious thinking about wether I want to continue my subscription since I’ve been buying a lot of Julep items lately. We’ll see. Anyway here is the box:

Image

Image

ImageImage

I got box #2 and my box weighed .5560 lbs.

My box contained:

1. Skin & Co. Body Gel-The sample is large, which I love, but I have read some not so good reviews on the birchbox site. Apparently, this gel doesn’t lather well, so we’ll see.

Image

2. Oribe Shampoo & Conditioner for Beautiful Color- The full size shampoo retails for 37.00 and the conditioner is 39.00. That is crazy expensive to me and I would likely not spend so much on shampoo and conditioner unless it was miraculous. I got 2 foil packet sets and I have long, thick hair so I’ll likely use both packets for one use. I am not super excited about this sample, but I will use it.

3. Mirenesse Glossy Kiss-I got the color called “Quick Kiss” which is an orangey-red color. A lot of ladies who got this color were unhappy, but I like it. I am a fan of bold and bright lip color and I will be wearing this. I am also excited it’s also a cheek stain. It looked lovely blended out on my hand, so hopefully it will look nice on my cheeks as well.

4. Kusmi Tea-I’m “meh” about this sample. I am a coffee drinker, but I do occasionally drink tea, so I will be trying this.

5. Supergoop! Advanced Anti-Aging Eye Cream-I am all worried that I’m getting eye wrinkles. I don’t notice much crow’s feet, but I have noticed some under eye wrinkles and I’m trying to ward them off! I am going to try this, and I have high hopes for it. I was excited for this sample.

Which box did you get? Where you happy?
